Overcoming Adversity While Writing Your First Novel

Published by jodapoet at 12:18 pm under Writing Edit This

Patience! Patience! Patience! And, unfortunately that is the one thing I do not have. Writing a novel is serious business and can be overwhelming. It is a daunting task to create characters  with their complexities while developing a storyline at the same time. Not to mention the fact that at times you will begin a chapter with one story in mind having it end another way and therefore changing the entire concept of the story. It takes not only patience but strict discipline and determination to finish a novel.

We all have daily lives and trying to juggle our responsibilities along with making time for our next chapter is difficult to say the least. There are unfortunately also those naysayers who find it necessary to let us know that what we are doing will never come to fruition.

The novelist is the “hardworker” of us writers. That is not to say that all of us writers do not work hard but the novelist is one who knows this endeavor will last years yet keeps pushing ahead without fail despite the adversity he or she finds during the process.

Patience, determination and a knowing that what you are creating is an of itself a part of you will allow you to overcome any obstacles which may arise while writing your first novel. There will be doubts as well however doubting your writing is doubting yourself and once you understand that and realize that doubting yourself is just a waste of time your novel will be on the bestseller list in no time.
