Just for once - The debate

Published by jodapoet at 11:30 pm under Writing, politics Edit This

Just for once I would like to hear those two debate without answering questions preceded by having to state the other’s record and policies.  We already know, or at least most of us do.  Just get on with it and answer the questions.  It’s the same old - same old.The one instance where I almost through something at the tv, I didn’t because I can’t afford a new one, was when McCain said he would implement a spending freeze with the exception of the military and defense.  Was he high? or just so out of touch that he does not realize we’re in the mess we’re in because of the exorbitant spending in Iraq.  He’s clueless.

I think they both stated their cases as they routinely do, no surprises anywhere yet I think Obama came out on top.  He’s got the poise, the oratory expertise and is just less annoying than McCain.

All in all, I didn’t learn anything new and found myself wanting it to be over soon so I could blog.

cincin: how about “candidates not valid”?

Obama did come out on top but I didn’t like that he came down to McCain’s tactics of saying why the other candidate shouldn’t be elected instead of telling why he SHOULD be elected. Like cincin says we’re over it, it’s time to get out of the playground and show the people what they’re going to do, and how they’re going to do it, and why they’ll do it better than the other party.

The debates aren’t for anyone that has already made up their mind; they’re for the undecided voters. While some of us watched to see if there would be punches thrown, others (like me) wanted an excuse to get plowed on a Tuesday night by taking a drink every time McCain said “My Friends” and Obama said “look”. If you paid attention, they both laid out several policies, and they couldn’t be more different from each other. It’s easy to tune out, or only pay attention to the smears. The hard part is listening with a trained ear for the actual substance.

Sorry, I’m going off on a rant on your blog. Not what I meant to do.

    Great post, Jo

    Cheers

Thanks for your comments. I’m tired of the mudslinging but it makes for good tv.
