Same Sex Marriage
Proposition 8 would eliminate the right for gay and lesbian couples here in California to get married. I always hear the argument that allowing homosexual couples to be married threatens marriage between heterosexuals. My question is, how exactly are straight couples threatened? Even our presidential nominees are not in favor of gay marriage. They’ll tell you they support recognizing rights of visitations in the hospital etc… but when it comes down to it they do not support marriage. I just don’t understand why. Are our elected officials against gay marriage because of the bible? If so, where is the separation between Church and state? To be honest I’m sick of everyone quoting the bible when it comes to issues such as these.
According to the right wing conservatives God is all about love. If this is true then why the hate mongering? They call homosexuality a sin – an abomination. Let’s think about that for a minute. I’ll try not to be graphic here and get my point out to all of you. They say it’s the “acts” that are an abomination. Well, correct me if I’m wrong here but heterosexuals partake in some of these same acts. So why an abomination for some and not the other?
The fact of the matter is that we all or most of us grew up in households where homosexuality was considered wrong and some where we were taught it was a sin. Because of that fact, we never tried to understand it or consider that people are just people. And, as a result, we are fearful of what we don’t understand. It’s not difficult.
We all fall in love at some point in time in our life. We don’t choose who to fall in love with – it just happens. What’s wrong with two people, whether the same sex or not being in love? They should absolutely have the same rights as heterosexuals and be allowed to get married just like the rest of us.
Any thoughts on this?

My thoughts…pretty much the same as yours. What a crying shame.

You know, it’s been my experience that right wing conservatives forget that God is love. You must be around better ones than me…. must be nice.
Don’t know about this particular law, but religions have naturally recognized heterosexual marriage because biologically, it is the fundamental family unit. A homosexual union is incapable of producing a child; even to have a family, two homosexuals must rely on a heterosexual union somewhere else.
This shouldn’t be about who loves who - in a free society, the rights of any two people to commit to each other is important because ultimately it benefits everybody. As you say, you fall in love with who you fall in love with. Calling it marriage is the problem. It isn’t just offending some obscure religious doctrine, it is plainly perverting the proper and natural meaning of the term.
Or, to use an analogy - the moon is in the sky and it gives off light, but to start insisting that it be referred to as the sun would be to completely misunderstand the concept, and I would ask - who really is the one with the agenda?
On one hand, banning gay marriage would spare millions of people from the horrors of gay divorce….
But the reality of the situation is that the whole “marriage is a sacred thing” argument is simply a ploy to grab the attention of single issue voters by preying on their prejudices.
Love is pure, love is blind, and love does not discriminate; anyone arguing otherwise is simply foolish.
By the way, thank you for your comments on my blog. I dig your posts, and it was nice to see you add yours to my (somewhat) humble site.
Cheers
Great article. Same sex marriages are not bad. I have seen and know of many marriages that are not as pure as they would have some believe. You have couples that cheat, swing and even partake in orgie type sex. These people however do not “come out” to anyone. Therefore, they are accepted as best friends to many. To label someone gay gives you a reason to not like them.
Same sex marriages are legal in the UK and are called “civil partnerships”. (The Civil Partnership Act 2005.). People entering into and registering their civil partnership have exactly the same legal rights as married couples ( ie in relation to property & finance, and children) on death and on the break-up of the relationship.
The sky didn’t fall in.
wonder.

Thank you all for reading and for leaving your opinions and comments.
It is not about hate. Its not about taking away rights. It is about protecting our society from those who wish to promote homosexuality as first exactly equal as hetrosexuality, and ultimately try to sell homosexuality as “better” and “superior”. If you buy into the concept that by supporting the rights of choosing to be hetrosexual as homophobic and hateful you are gravely misguided and brainwashed.
There is a “gay agenda” that will not stop even once recognized as equal, which nature proves it to (unfortunately for homosexuals) to not be.
The greater society approving same sex marriage will only give greater traction to a “push” of homosexuality onto all of us and most importantly all the way down to 5 year olds! it has already happened! Perhaps you can, but I cannot look a 5 year old in the eye and tell them gay relations are the “exact same” as normal hetrosexual family. The gay agenda feels it is and you will see eventually will try to even compete with nature’s status.
To Definca - And you are sorely misguided and brainwashed to think that homosexuals have an agenda and are trying to push anything. They simply want the same rights a heterosexuals as it applies to marriage and they should have the same rights. And, when has it been taught to 5 year olds. State facts and not those misrepresented commercials. Gay relationships are absolutely no different than that of heterosexuals. Why are YOU so afraid?
