Handcrafted Holiday Cards
Now I admit that I am not a crafts person. However I love greeting cards. As a poet I enjoy creating my own poetry to express my feelings for holidays and special occasions. I also think homemade gifts whether it be cards or otherwise are much more appreciated.
As writers and poets there are so many ways to create cards. There are software programs you can use or you can merely design your own by using your words and photo cards. You can buy photo cards in bulk which consist of a two-fold card, a backing for the photo and an envelope. You can print the poem on the photo backing and glue it onto the card then write a personal sentiment inside the card. If you are a photographer or have a special photo you like you can use the photo where it is intended on the card and then print or write your poem inside the card. If you are an artist you can draw, paint or use any other material to create your design on the card with your poem inside. In using the imagination there are endless possibilities. Now with many online photo services such as Shutterfly, Flickr and Photoworks, just to name a few, you can basically create your own card online.
The above photo is of a card I made a few months ago. You can buy the photo cards in different colors and shapes. I basically bought the white cards and added my own photo by gluing it to the photo backing card then gluing that onto the inside card frame. It’s simple and easy and by adding your own words inside would be a very special gift for anyone.I think anything that is created from the heart is special and as poets we can give the gift of expressing our love through words and that is what makes the card so special.

Have a tall glass of lemonade on me my friend,

I have so often used my own poems and photos for greeting cards. It’s fun and, those who receive them, really seem to like
that special touch. When I don’t use my photographs, I create
greeting cards from graphic programs I have, always adding my
own verse.
People at my office always ask me to create cards for folks who are leaving the agency, for birthdays, etc and I have friends who have asked me to write verse for their cards. I’ve often thoght that it might be a business worth starting.
It certainly would Carmen and having received your cards I could attest to their uniqueness.
