Entrecard Changes - Help!!!

By now I’m sure all of you have heard about the changes taking place at Entrecard.  I know my buddy Lynne over at A Malaysian Abroad has already written an article in regards to these changes and is a must read for all of you bloggers out there.

When I first began blogging about six months ago Entrecard was my main source of traffic.  Now it counts for about a third of my traffic.  However I do still enjoy using the program.  I’ve gained many readers and friends using EC and I enjoy reading and commenting on all the blogs.  As a result I am not happy about the changes.

The main point for me is that we will no longer have control over who advertises on our blogs unless we want to pay to reject non relevant ads.  I think that is really ridiculous.  I also don’t know if Today.com and EC will be able to compromise on this situation.

I also do not like the fact that we were all only given a week’s notice on this change.  EC acts like they are doing us all a favor giving us a week. It is very disheartening.

The other point and question I have for all of you is since this is only a week away is it worth it to drop, accept ads and advertise right now?  I really am stumped on this.  Your thoughts?

I don’t like it either that “we will no longer have control over who advertises on our blogs unless we want to pay to reject non relevant ads.” Yes, that is really ridiculous, and seems putative. Unfortunately, I haven’t been blogging long enough to offer a solution. Could we at least come up with our own “Visit Daily” lists? I’ll check out Lynne’s article. Thanks for pointing to it.

And thank you for droppin’ by and commenting on my blog.

    Take care.

I’m going to continue to drop until there’s a final ruling by today.com on whether the EC widget will be allowed. And frankly, since I greatly enjoy far too many blogs in the EC system, if today.com and EC can’t come to a reasonable resolution that will allow us to remain in the EC system, I’ll start focusing enough attention on my non-Today.com blogs to qualify them for EC (because I don’t post on those often at all right now) so that I can continue to make the rounds of my EC friends who are not on Today.com. Yes, I could still do it without using EC at all, but the Drops Inbox is a great way for me to be reminded of blogs that I wanted to check back on again.

Having read Ratty’s comment, I went back and looked, and yeah, they’ve done away with the “penalty for declining ads” concept. Harrrumph! Another thing NOT done right the first time.

While this is good news, it doesn’t quite solve the dilemma for today.com folk. From the admin perspective, isn’t it easier to ban EC than to trust that every single blogger within today.com who is also part of the EC system would never slip up and allow the vorboten 3rd party ads??

I’ve pretty much mentally signed-ed out EC, for a malaysian abroad anyway. I have my other mixed bag blog that will remain. I’ve already transferred almost all of my credits form one to the other.

I am somewhat encouraged by EC dropping the ad rejection fee. As to how today.com’ers could be sure to not let any erstwhile 3rd party ads — maybe have some kind of checkbox in our settings that says “Reject all 3rd party ads automatically.” But again, today.com would have to trust their bloggers to actually check that box.

For now, I am continuing on dropping, but I am also looking at ways to keep up with my favorite blogs.

This really comes at a bad time, because I’ve been working on getting my second blog EC ready and to start to promote it.

Roxie - well that changed it now so you don’t have to pay to reject ads which helps. However will see what happens.

chameleonsdreams - since the virus hit I took yesterday on EC I’m not dropping anymore. Though, I will wait to see what Today.com does.

Ratty - You are right. there are thousands of Today.com blogs on EC so they will take a huge hit if they lose us.

lynne - that makes sense. If we slipped up and allowed an ad then we would suffer for it so banning altogether may make sense. I don’t know. I haven’t dropped today at all and as a result have been able to prepare posts for the next few days so it freed up much time for me. I like that.

laneerg - Maybe they will come up with a compromise.
