A Poem A Day - Beauty

Published by jodapoet at 2:24 pm under Poetry, Writing Edit This

BEAUTY
John Masefield

Have seen dawn and sunset on moors and windy hills
Coming in solemn beauty like slow old tunes of Spain:
I have seen the lady April bringing in the daffodils,
Bringing the springing grass and the soft warm April rain.

I have heard the song of the blossoms and the old chant of the sea,
And seen strange lands from under the arched white sails of ships;
But the loveliest things of beauty God ever has showed to me
Are her voice, and her hair, and eyes, and the dear red curve of her lips.

    This is such a beautiful poem, Jo…thanks for sharing it. I enjoyed seeing what Masefield beholds as beautiful and it got me in touch with what I behold as most beautiful ( such a LONG list ). I think, for each of us, of course, it will vary. All to often, we tend to forget the treasures we have seen and experienced as we pass through our daily lives and need to revisit them! Sometimes that beauty is an overhwhelming vista such as the thundering falls at Iguazu on the Brazilian-Agentinian border - or the incredible memorial to love, the Taj Mahal at Arga, India - or the precious exchange between a toddler
    as he discovers a new reality and the smile explodes on his face.
